I quickly turned around, apologizing and saying, “I just got caught up in some…” I turned back to Emmett, hoping he’d help me come up with an excuse, but he was nowhere to be seen.
“Never mind!” I said as cheerfully as I could and followed my boss to his office, wary but trying not to look or act that way.
I couldn’t get Emmett’s words out of my head.
