The boy kept shaking his head, eyes fixed on the newborn. ‘She wouldn’t look like that,’ he insisted, his voice steady and unwavering.

His parents exchanged worried glances but forced smiles. ‘Maybe you’re just tired,’ his mother suggested, ruffling his hair.
