Severing the final digital connection
The phone in my hand buzzed again, lighting up with Mark’s name for the tenth time. I looked at the screen one last time before pressing the block contact button decisively.
The persistent vibration finally stopped, leaving a heavy silence in the backseat of the cab. We merged onto the highway on-ramp, the city skyline beginning to recede behind us.
I tossed the device into my purse, knowing I had severed the last digital tether to them.
