Luke remained intent on the chain until movement on the ridge caught his attention. A voice shouted faintly over the crashing surf, carried by the wind.
He turned just enough to see figures standing high on the dunes, arms waving frantically. Their urgency pulled him out of his concentration. In seconds, the group was running, sliding down the slope toward him.
