Ernest blinked, trying to process the words. “Did I do something wrong?” he asked, voice barely above a whisper. Adams shook his head.
“Don’t fight it, just sign your resignation papers, now.” That was all he said. No warning, no thank you, no reason. Ernest felt his heart drop, but he nodded anyway.
