Heavy atmosphere
The atmosphere at the dinner was heavy with unspoken words and lingering mistrust. I could feel the tension in the air as soon as I walked in.
My parents tried to make polite conversation, but it was stilted. The gaps in our dialogue were filled with years of resentment and unanswered questions.
Each comment felt like an awkward attempt to paper over the cracks of our broken past. The heaviness in the room was almost suffocating.
