Waiting Under The Fee Notices
I chose the chair near the bulletin board and scanned the notices. A laminated sheet showed fees for certified copies, plain copies, and rush retrievals.

I counted the bills in my envelope and checked for quarters. The speaker clicked once, and a new number appeared at the top of the display.
