A Public Argument
The atmosphere tensed as Mike and Sarah spoke, voices rising unintentionally. “Just come home,” Mike pleaded, eyes searching hers for understanding.

“I can’t,” Sarah replied, frustration tinged with fear in her voice. The lingering shoppers exchanged uneasy looks, whispers brushing the air.
Mike attempted another word, but Sarah shook her head and turned away. Left in the wake of her departure, Mike stood surrounded by curious eyes, a crescendo of murmurs following him out the door.
