I glanced at Linda, giving her my best attempt at a reassuring smile. ‘Everything’s just peachy,’ I fibbed, swirling the last bit of my coffee.
I could see the doubt in her eyes, but thankfully, she didn’t push. She nodded, likely knowing I needed space.
I appreciated her concern but wasn’t ready to spill my troubles. For now, the lie was easier—and I hoped convincing enough to ease her worries.
