Around four in the morning, Carter woke up to police sirens rushing by. He was sleeping inside his truck at the side of the highway so that he could hear everything outside.
Normally, he was a vast sleeper, but anyone would have woken up by the sound of ten police cars rushing by. It seemed like it would never end.
