Breaking silence
The vendor finally broke the silence after Laura handed him the coins. He smiled and nodded, telling her, “That one’s special.” Laura thanked him awkwardly, tucking the teddy bear gently under her arm.
As she walked away, she glanced back over her shoulder once, only to see the elderly vendor still staring at her from a distance.
